Acupuncture in Treatment of De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis

De Quervain’s tenosynovitis, a condition characterized by inflammation of the tendons in the wrist, can cause significant discomfort and limit daily activities. While traditional treatments such as rest, splinting, medication, and steroid injections are commonly prescribed, research shows acupuncture is a promising non-invasive treatment option.

A recent randomized controlled trial investigated the efficacy of acupuncture in treating De Quervain’s tenosynovitis. The results showed acupuncture provided significant pain relief and improved functional outcomes for patients compared to conventional treatments alone.

Cumulatively over the course of a series of treatments, acupuncture reduces inflammation and promotes tissue repair. In tandem with rest, splinting, and even in conjunction with medication or injections, acupuncture can be part of a comprehensive treatment plan for De Quervain’s.
